The Wissahickon in October with Debbie Hoellein and Jim McClory

October 30, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Meet at Johnson Street between Wissahickon Avenue and Lincoln Drive

Join Debbie and Jim as they lead a different type of hike in October. Besides exploring the changes in flora and fauna during autumn, we will hike to the Henry Houston statue through what once was the Houston Ramble. This hike will be done in memory of Gerry Schweiger, a beloved trail ambassador who led a similar “Trails less Traveled” hike to the statue in the past. We will also visit Historic Rittenhouse Town and Thomas Mansion and along our course we will be met by David Bower who will explain the history of these parts of the Wissahickon as only he can.

Be prepared for some uneven and rocky surfaces on our 3 mile hike. Children 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult, but no dogs except for service animals, please.

Level: Difficult (many inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)

Distance: ~3 miles

Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. If you or anyone in your household are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home. More information is at fow.org/covid-19.

Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Claire Brennan at brennan@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.
