Presidents Day Three Meadow Exploration with Lisa Kleiman & Jean McWilliams
February 19 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Meet at Northwestern Stables
The Wissahickon is known for its hilly, rocky terrain, but it is also home to three meadows, each with a unique habitat and history. Join us on a hike linking these three meadows, that also includes a short section along Wissahickon Creek. The terrain is hilly, rocky and may be muddy so please wear appropriate footwear. Winter is a wonderful time to explore the meadows and the trails leading up to them as we will enjoy creek views through the bare trees. The full route exploring all three meadows is 6 miles, but there will be an option offered to explore 2 meadows (4 miles). Please bring along snacks and water as we will stop along the way for a short snack break. Logistics -we will meet at the Forbidden Drive Kiosk at Northwestern Avenue, near the street parking at Northwestern Stables. Hike will be about 6 miles at a moderate pace. Anticipated hike time 3 – 3.5 hours. 4 mile option is rated Moderate, while 6 mile option is rated Difficult.
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. We ask all event attendees to bring a mask and mask up if a distance of six feet cannot be maintained during the activity. If you or anyone in your household are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home. More information is at fow.org/covid-19.
Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Claire Brennan at firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.
